In a recent tax court case, Gender Identity Disorder is recognized as a disease. In the case, the taxpayer was entitled to deduct as medical expenses the costs of gender reassignment surgery as well as hormone therapy. The Court concluded that the hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery “treated” the disease of Gender Identity Disorder.
